A Commitment to Design Excellence
The good architect must be both technician and choreographer, creating from the wealth of historical and cultural influences, a unified rhythmic and aesthetic design.- Stephen W. Long
Stephen Long first visited Maui, Hawaii in 1979 and established his full services architectural practice in Kihei to assist clients in navigating the recovery process from the Lahaina Fire. Following Hurricane Iniki, Long & Associates consulted with the Hawaii Department of Accounting & General Services to renovate all of the public schools on Kauai. Since then he has been involved in diverse projects including speculative commercial developments, restaurant designs, distinctive custom homes, community parks, Assisted Living Care Facilities, Agricultural Subdivisions and resort properties. Prior to becoming a Hawaii architect, Stephen practiced architecture in the Chicago and San Francisco metropolitan areas for a period of ten years. While in Chicago he designed unique homes, exclusive retail stores and renovations of large historical commercial buildings. He has been personally involved in developing residential and commercial projects from conception through financing to completion. One of his passions is creating sculpture, which along with his architecture has been exhibited and published nationally.
Stephen designs and races traditional Hawaiian sailing canoes throughout the Hawaiian Islands and is a long standing volunteer at the Waipa Foundation Summer Sailing Program.
